Leading our next Tech Talk is AppNexus co-founder and CTO, Mike Nolet. AppNexus generates close to 10TB of data daily that has to be aggregated, processed and distributed throughout the technology stack. AppNexus also stores data on over a billion unique cookies in a multi-terabyte globally distributed key-value store that handles 160k QPS read and 80k QPS write requests per second.  All those systems require a ton of monitoring and as such we’ve worked with open source groups to generate a metrics collection and handling system that currently collects, graphs and monitors close to 500,000 metrics in real-time. The talk will share some of the challenges, pain points, solutions, and other insights with the community.

About the speaker:

Prior to founding AppNexus, Mike Nolet was Director of Analytics and Product Manager at Right Media, where he designed and managed key applications including predictive optimization, inventory forecasting, and Media Guard, which protects publishers from harmful or unwanted ad content. At Right Media, Mike was instrumental in helping clients including Yahoo, MySpace, CPX Interactive, and others to leverage the Right Media Exchange for maximum benefit. Mike's insight into the intersection between business needs and technology innovation began at 15, when he sold his first software application, and continued at Princeton University, where he studied Economics. Mike is an active blogger at MikeOnAds where he analyzes the fast-changing display ad management and buying space, examining the interplay of ad networks, ad exchanges, real-time bidding and the entire ecosystem of players.
